Microdermabrasion – Series Of 4 Sessions: Aftercare for Week 1
By Mancini de Paris Salon and day SPA | October 1, 2026
Serving Shirlington and South Arlington, plus Alexandria, Falls Church, Washington DC, Baileys Crossroads, and Crystal City.
The most important rule after your microdermabrasion treatment is simple: treat your skin like it’s freshly polished. Keep it cool, keep it clean, and protect it with SPF. I see the best results when people follow the basics for the first couple of days, the same kind of precision and care our regulars talk about when they trust Mona with their face for years in Arlington.
First 24–48 hours: calm skin, skip heat, don’t “help” it along
Right after a microdermabrasion facial, mild redness and sensitivity are common. Think of it like your skin just had a workout. For the first day or two, I generally recommend you keep everything gentle and boring. That’s how you protect the progress you’re building across your Series Of 4 Sessions.
Quick checklist for today: cool compress if you’re warm or flushed, gentle fragrance-free cleanser, rich moisturizer, and broad-spectrum SPF 30+ the next morning.
What I want you to avoid right now
- Hot showers, saunas, and steam. Heat tends to keep redness hanging around longer.
- Intense exercise and heavy sweating for 48 to 72 hours. If you’re a commuter in Shirlington or South Arlington, later-day appointments can help you avoid a sweaty rush right after treatment.
- Pools and hot tubs for 48 to 72 hours to lower irritation and infection risk.
- Makeup until redness settles. If you’re still pink, give it another day.
If you do have to be outside, remember the Mid-Atlantic sun is sneaky. Even in September, UV still shows up, and it will work against your results if you skip sunscreen.
Days 3–7: the microdermabrasion “don’t sabotage it” list
This is the part people underestimate. Your skin can look good by day three, then get irritated because you went back to strong products too fast. Microdermabrasion is meant to improve texture and tone over time, and in a four-session series, consistent aftercare matters as much as the appointment itself.
Actives to pause for 3–7 days
Hold off on retinol, AHA/BHA exfoliants, and strong vitamin C serums. If you’re not sure if something counts as an “active, ” send me the product name and I’ll tell you if it’s a “wait” or “okay.”
If you get flaking, do this and only this
Light flaking can happen. Don’t scrub it off and don’t pick. Use more moisturizer, and keep your cleanser gentle. Indoor heating around Arlington can make post-treatment dryness worse, so your skin may need an extra layer at night this week.
Sun protection is non-negotiable
Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Reapply if you’re outside, even if it’s a short walk. This is the difference between “I’m glowing” and “why am I blotchy?”
A simple routine that protects your microdermabrasion results
You don’t need a complicated shelf right now. You need the right types of products, used consistently, so each microdermabrasion treatment in your series builds on the last.
AM: gentle cleanser, rich fragrance-free moisturizer, SPF 30+.
PM: gentle cleanser, moisturizer. If you feel tight, apply a second layer before bed.
This week: skip scrubs, cleansing brushes, and at-home peels. Your skin has already had its exfoliation.
If you booked this series because you want progressive improvement in texture, tone, and blemishes, consistency is your friend. And if you’re balancing work, kids, and commuting around Crystal City or DC, this routine is realistic. It’s fast and it keeps irritation low.
Between sessions in your Series of 4: timing, touchpoints, and when to reach me
A four-session package works because each visit builds on steady, calm skin. I’ll help you keep that rhythm so you don’t over-exfoliate between appointments. People stick with our team for years because we take the time to educate and we actually listen to your goals, not because we rush you out the door.
"Mona is an absolute professional and perfectionist. Every time I visit her, I feel like a new woman!"

What’s normal, and what isn’t
- Normal: mild redness, tightness, light dryness, and occasional flaking.
- Reach out: increasing redness after day two, swelling, significant pain, oozing, or anything that feels “off” for your skin.
If you’re looking up facials near me because you want results without a lot of downtime, microdermabrasion is a great fit when you follow the week-one rules. And yes, we’re still the same place people count on for nails near me, a nail salon experience that feels clean and professional, hair styling near me, hair color near me, waxing near me, and even keratin treatment near me. I mention that because a lot of our regulars bundle appointments. If you do, I’ll help you space them so your skin stays happy.
